“This week’s Teacher of the Week, exemplifies what it means to be a great teacher,” said Karen Shaffer, American Paper & Twine Vice President. “We had numerous entries on Mrs. Tooker’s behalf, and we feel she has continually gone above and beyond the standards of an excellent teacher.”

“My kids have learned so much from her by the different strategies she uses in her classroom,” Said Karen Barlett, Donelson Elementary parent. “For example, this year she has created a ‘Tooker Store, Bank, Court, and Money.’ The kids receive money for things such as good conduct, good deeds, and any kind of ‘extra’ stuff they do to help in the classroom. Once a month the kids get to go to the ‘Tooker Store’ with the money they have earned. If someone turns in homework late, they go to ‘Tooker Court’ and must present their case. The kids are learning how to count money, how to keep their conduct ‘in check’ as well as learning the responsibility for their actions.”

Each week during the Titans’ season, submissions are reviewed to find exceptional teachers. The winning teachers receive a $400 gift basket full of supplies for their classroom, and a new winner is announced every Tennessee Titans game. At the end of the season a ‘Teacher of the Year’ is selected from the Teacher of the Week winners. This deserving teacher will receive an award, a gift basket of school supplies (worth approximately $800) and tickets to the December 29th game vs. the Houston Texans.
